Daily use reaches 800 youth passenger trips
RAPID CITY, SD--It's only Thursday and use of the RapidRide's transit system by the community's youth has surpassed records each day this week.
On Monday, a record was set with 795 youth passenger trips provided on the RapidRide system. The Roosevelt Route, which services Rapid City Central, Horace Mann Elementary, North Middle School, General Beadle Elementary, St. Thomas More and St. Elizabeth Seton, provided 214 of the youth passenger trips.
The record was short-lived.
On Tuesday, Rapid Transit System director Rich Sagen reported RapidRide provided 821 youth passenger trips including 219 on the Roosevelt Route. Sagen said it was the first time to reach 800 youth passenger trips in a single day since the free transportation for youth program started at the beginning of the 2016-17 academic school year.
The record string continued Wednesday, with RapidRide producing a second consecutive day of more than 800 youth passenger trips, with 811 trips provided, including a record 223 on the Roosevelt Route.
"The numbers of youth using the RapidRide system continues to be impressive," said Sagen.
A youth passenger trip is defined as anytime a young person boards the RapidRide bus for transportation.
