RAPID CITY, SD--Water service has been restored to the area, however traffic restrictions will remain in place through the weekend and into Monday (March 4) in the area of Main Street and Mount Rushmore Road affected by a Thursday water line break.
Crews were finishing up repairs Friday morning and planned to pour concrete at the repair areas. It takes a few days for the concrete to cure so traffic restrictions will remain in place until early next week, according to City Public Works Director Dale Tech.
Traffic will remain reduced to one lane on Main Street between Seventh Street and Mount Rushmore Road, and two northbound lanes on Mount Rushmore Road will remain closed through the weekend and extending into at least Monday so make sure the concrete curing process is completed.
City officials advise drivers to expect delays and to use caution when driving in the area and to consider alternate routes during the time of the traffic restrictions.
Water service was restored to the affected area Thursday evening.
In addition, crews completed repairs and service was restored last evening to the area of Fairmont Boulevard and Parkview Drive affected by a water line break mid-afternoon Thursday. Crews expect to finish back-filling the area today.
