SOLID WASTE OFFICIALS PROVIDE HELPFUL HINTS FOR CURBSIDE YARD WASTE
Remote yard waste sites open to drop off materials
RAPID CITY, SD—With Autumn upon us, many homeowners are getting out and preparing gardens, yards and trees for the winter season. Officials with the City’s Solid Waste Division provide some helpful reminders regarding yard waste disposal and curbside collection.
- All yard waste must be in paper, biodegradable bags for disposal. Do not place yard waste in plastic. Yard waste materials are used for compost at the Landfill and plastic materials do not break down in the process.
- Getting rid of branches from trees and bushes? They must be in four-foot chunks and bundled up. If the branches are over four feet, they will not fit into the back of solid waste collection trucks.
- Do not place branches on the ground around trash containers.
- Do not put dirt, sod, rocks or logs inside of yard waste bags. Bring those materials to the Landfill.
- Apples? Take apples to the remote yard waste containers or to the Landfill.
- Keep yard waste bags under 25 pounds so they don’t rip.
- Place yard waste bags at curbside about four feet from trash and recycle containers.
The remote yard waste disposal sites at Fitzgerald Stadium and West Boulevard North are open for residents to discard yard waste materials. When dropping off materials at the remote yard waste sites, place materials inside the containers and not on the ground.
