RENOVATED SIOUX PARK PLAYGROUND OPENS FOR PLAY
RAPID CITY, SD--City Parks Division Manager Scott Anderson indicates maintenance crews completed final cleanup and adjustments at the renovated Sioux Park playground and the area is open to public access.
The popular park had been closed since November 1 so crews could replace aging equipment with new features. Anderson said the old Sioux Park equipment was approaching 30 years old.
Anderson said the new Sioux Park playground offers new features, one piece specifically for two-to-five year old children and three new pieces that will attract five-to-12 year old children. A major playground feature has been patterned after the Rocket Slide feature that was very popular at the Park back in the 70s, 80s and early 90s.
A Tot Lot for two-to-five year old children includes a new composite structure and T-Swing. The area geared towards 5-12 year old children includes a large composite structure, spinning net climber and a ZipKrooz zip line structure. The loose wood chip surfacing at the current playground has been replaced with artificial turf surfacing that satisfies requirements for fall protection and impact attenuation along with meeting ADA standards.
Anderson said he appreciated the public’s patience during the eight-month construction period and expects it won’t take long for the new playground to again become a popular attraction amongst the community’s youngest residents and visitors.
