Rapid City Fire Department's First Family: Rod Seals Becomes City's 18th Fire Chief

The City Council provided formal approval Tuesday night to Mayor Steve Allender's selection of 22-year Rapid City Fire Department veteran Rod Seals as the City's new fire chief.  Seals becomes the community's 18th fire chief.

After the confirmation vote, Seals took the oath of office from Finance Director Pauline Sumption.  Seals' career with the Rapid City Fire Department begain in June 1995 and he has held numerous positions, ioncluding Division Chief of Fire Operations.  In November 2015, he was named Deputy Fire Chief and took on interim fire chief duties in December 2016 with the departure of Mike Maltaverne.
