Rapid City Fire Department Releases 2021 Statistics
Rapid City, S.D. – 2021 was a record breaking year for the Rapid City Fire Department. The RCFD responded to 21,485 calls for service in 2021. That’s a ten percent increase from 2020.
A breakdown of the calls for service goes as follows:
Medical Only (75%): 16,087
Fires & Potential Fires (7%): 1,486
Service Calls, including Airport (6%): 1,281
Hazardous Condition, Rescue & Other (12%): 2,571
Aid Given to Other Departments: 60
Total: 21,485
30,002 units responded to those total calls and spent an average of 39.53 minutes on scene.
Total Patient Care Reports for 2021 equaled out to 19,575.
A breakdown for those reports is as follows:
Patients Evaluated/Treated: 14,215
No Medical/No Patient Found: 2,876
Cancelled Prior to Arrival: 1,685
Dedicated Event Standby: 148
Fire/EMS Incident Standby: 651
Total Patient Care Reports: 19,575
There were 10,610 patients transported in 2021. Our Mobile Medic Program responded to 3,212 calls.
2021 was also a record for wildland fires, with crews responding to 98 wildland fires last year. The last record was 88 wildland fires in 2012. Crews usually average about 50 wildland fires a year.
In 2021, there was one civilian fire related fatality and one civilian fire related injury. Both were smoke inhalation in a home fire.
