Crews from the Rapid City Parks Division are busy winterizing the rose flower beds in Halley Park and Memorial Park this week.
City Greenhouse Specialist John Berglund said he has been waiting for Mother Nature to intervene and drop leaves from trees that can be collected to provide winter cover on the rose beds. The recent overnight cold spells have produced a large supply of leaves from City parks for John's crews to work with in winterizing the beds.
Berglund said crews have also dug up the four banana plants from Wilson Park and they are under warm cover in the City's greenhouse. Berglund plans to place the banana plants in a City park again next summer.
