AIR FORCE RETIREE NAMED APRIL'S VETERAN OF THE MONTH

Pascal Bedard known for his 'how can I serve you' attitude

RAPID CITY, SD--Humbled by his work growing up in the family's dairy and wood business, Pascal Bedard aspired to make something great of his life.  In 1981, he decided to enlist in the United States Air Force.

Bedard's decision resulted in a memorable 26-year military career with overseas duty missions in South Korea, the Philippines, Saudi Arabia and Diego Garcia.

Bedard is Rapid City's Veteran of the Month for April.  He will be recognized at tonight's City Council meeting, beginning at 6:30 p.m. in Council Chambers.

Known for his 'How can I serve you' response to others, Bedard served in aircraft maintenance working to ensure aircraft were properly maintained and in a state of operational readiness.  Upon retirement as chief master sergeant in 2007, Bedard had been assigned as squadron chief of the 28th Maintenance Operations Squadron at Ellsworth Air Force Base.  His unit's morale was reported as the highest in the Air Force for a unit of its size.

Since retirement, Bedard has provided years of service to the Rapid City Vet Center, currently participating in the work study program.  He assists individuals with accessing transportation and benefits and works with veterans and their families on a number of issues.  He is currently a senior at Black Hills State University working towards a bachelor of science degree in human services.

Pascal and his wife Dennisse, whom he met while the two were stationed at Pattsburgh Air Force Base in New York, have four grown children.
