TO RAPID CITY SPORTS COMMISSION

RAPID CITY, SD (Sept. 6)—The Rapid City Council voted to approve a revised version of the 2024 City budget during a special session Tuesday night.

            The Council made one revision to the proposed budget, voting to add a new budget item and allocating $75,000 to the Rapid City Sports Commission.  The $75,000 would be funded by transferring $50,000 from the Mayor’s Office budget allocation and $25,000 from the Community Development Department’s allocation.

            The City Council also discussed the proposed park ranger program with no changes made to the budget allocation.

            Due to the adjustment, a second reading and approval of the revised City budget is still needed before the end of September.

for further discussion, possible changes

RAPID CITY, SD (Aug. 29)—The Rapid City Council voted 8-1 Monday night to approve first reading of the mayor’s proposed 2024 City budget. 

            The Council approved two changes to the proposed $261.3 million budget and set a special session for next Tuesday for further discussion, consideration of additional changes and possible second reading of the budget.

            The changes included transferring $60,000 from the proposed budget allocation of $360,000 to Journey On and adding it to the $75,000 allocation proposed for Volunteers of America.  The Council also approved transferring $50,000 from the proposed $150,000 allocation for City Council Contingency and restoring funding to Early Childhood Connections.

            The special session is scheduled for 5 p.m. next Tuesday, September 5 in Council Chambers.  The session will be held prior to the Council’s regularly-scheduled meeting at 6:30 p.m., which is being held Tuesday due to Monday’s Labor Day holiday.

            The public is invited to both Council meetings

CITY COUNCIL SCHEDULES SESSION

FOR FIRST READING OF 2024 CITY BUDGET

 RAPID CITY, SD (August 22): Mayor Jason Salamun presented the 2024 City budget proposal to the City Council at a special session Monday night (August 21).  The mayor is proposing a $261.3 million budget and detailed revenues and expenditures, along with outlining goals and priorities for City government and its 13 departments in 2024.

        The City Council has scheduled first reading of the 2024 City budget at a special meeting slated for Monday, August 28 at 5:30 p.m. in Council Chambers of City Hall. The public is invited.

         The mayor provided a 50-page budget document, outlining descriptions, overviews and goals of City departments, economic indicators for the Rapid City, outlining the City’s guiding principles and vision as well as priorities for 2024: safer community, healthy economy, vibrant community, high-performing government and hometown spirit.  The mayor also outlined plans and funding proposals for new initiatives, including a park ranger program.
