Mayor Steve Allender began his job shadowing activities at city departments this week, taking time to serve as a lifeguard at the Rapid City Swim Center.

The Mayor supervised swimmers around the leisure pool and on the slide, visited with lifeguards about their duties and took to the whistle to signal the periodic pool break.  Afterwards, the mayor stated he had a deeper appreciation for the concentration and hard work and training needed to be a lifeguard and praised the skills and dedication of the City's lifeguard and aquatics staff.

The Mayor will also be working with the City's parking enforcement crew as well as working at the landfill and on trash collections yet this month.  The purpose of the job shadowing activities is to obtain a greater appreciation of the work of City staff in various departments.
