Kickoff Ribbon Cutting Held For 61st Annual Black Hills Stock Show

A ribbon cutting was held to kick off the 61st annual Black Hills Stock Show and Rodeo January 11.

    Mayor Steve Allender provided greetings and a proclamation recognizing the importance of the annual event, which attracts 300,000 people and has a $22 million economic impact to Rapid City.  Council members Lisa Modrick and Jason Salamun also attended the kickoff recognition, which was attended by several dozen community, business and agriculture leaders, officials and board members, along with local ranchers.

    The Stock Show and Rodeo is officially scheduled from January 25-February 3 but other events precede the official week of activities.  For more information and a schedule of events, go to www.blackhillsstockshow.com .

WHEREAS, The Black Hills Stock Show & Rodeo has been an important part of the farm and agriculture industry in Rapid City and the western South Dakota region; and

WHEREAS, The Central States Fair organization is an important component in producing and supporting the Black Hills Stock Show & Rodeo for over 60 years; and

WHEREAS, The Black Hills Stock Show & Rodeo is one of the largest events in Rapid City with over 300,000 people attending each year; with an economic impact of $22 million; and

WHEREAS, The Central States Fair management, staff, the board of directors, community leaders, City of Rapid City, Pennington County, the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center and the hundreds of volunteers have provided the vision and passion to make this annual event a reality for all to enjoy; and

WHEREAS, This marks the 61st Annual Black Hills Stock Show & Rodeo in Rapid City, Pennington County and Western South Dakota. We come together to celebrate the South Dakota quality of life and good old western hospitality this January 25 through February 3.

NOW, therefore, I, Steve Allender, Mayor of Rapid City, South Dakota, hereby proclaim January 25 through February 3, 2019 as

Black Hills Stock Show & Rodeo Week

In Rapid City and urge all Black Hills residents to attend and show their support at one of the many exciting events.
