RAPID CITY, SD--Rapid City's Building Services Division issued the largest building permit in the City's history Thursday.  The permit, with a valuation of $92,500,000 was issued to Rapid City Regional Hospital for its Phase II Expansion.

The four highest-valued permits in the City's history have been issued since March 2016.  Three of those permits have been issued to Rapid City Regional Hospital since August.   Last August, Rapid City Regional Hospital was issued a building permit with a valuation of $38 million for the site work, footings and steel structure for the Phase II expansion.  In December, a permit with a valuation of $34.9 million was issued to Rapid City Regional Hospital for its Advanced Orthopedic and Sports Institute facility at 1635 Caregiver Circle.

"This is an awesome way to start 2018," said Rapid City Community Development Director Ken Young.  "Rapid City is on a consistent, positive building trend.  Building permits, large or small, result in jobs, development and growth for the community."

Mayor Steve Allender added, "It was just a few years ago, we were excited at reaching $200 million in valuation. Everyone wondered 'how can you beat $200 million'?  How do you beat it? $300 million! We've achieved $300 million in valuation two years straight.  And now we start 2018 with the highest-valued permit ever issued in Rapid City.

"This is very exciting for Rapid City, for our citizens, for development and for jobs."
