Help Wanted: City Continues Push For Seasonal Workers

HELP WANTED…

CITY CONTINUES PUSH FOR SEASONAL WORKERS

PARKS & THE MONUMENT HAVE NUMEROUS

VACANT POSITIONS TO FILL IMMEDIATELY

RAPID CITY, SD—The start of school often means the departure of dozens of seasonal workers in the City’s Parks and Recreation Division.  This year, City officials say the loss of seasonal workers leaves numerous vacancies in key positions through the fall and early winter months in the parks and cemetery divisions.

Meanwhile, The Monument is continuing its months-long push to attract hundreds of workers for key positions as the facility ramps up with more events this fall and the long-awaited opening of The Summit Arena.

“We have a big need for workers from the late summer through early winter,” said Scott Anderson, City Parks Division manager.  “We could keep them working until probably Thanksgiving or even Christmas.”

Anderson says the needs in the parks division include mowing, string trimming, cemetery work, trash removal, custodial work on park restrooms, landscape and tree work, irrigation maintenance and snow removal.  Over at The Monument, officials indicate they still have a need for more than 100 seasonal workers in areas such as guest and food services, box office workers, event staff, cooks, concession workers, dishwashers, bartenders, housekeepers and conversion technicians.

“We have some really great opportunities to be right in the middle of some big events, to be part of serving the public and being a part of the team that produces a great quality experience for our guests,” said Priscilla Dominguez, director of corporate sales and marketing for The Monument.

The City’s Human Resources Department reports in addition to the Parks and Monument positions, there are vacancies for numerous positions in other City departments including aquatics and ice maintenance workers, part-time paramedic and emergency technician, airport landside maintenance, Rapid Transit custodial maintenance, seasonal water reclamation positions, sports referees and utility repair operators.

Anyone wishing to learn more about the Parks positions can call 394-4175 or The Monument positions at 394-4115.  To apply or for a complete listing of vacancies, visit the City’s website at www.rcgov.org and click on the ‘Jobs’ button in the upper right of the home page.
