Community, business and industry officials gathered for Wednesday's groundbreaking for the Village On Monroe, an affordable housing partnership project at the corner of Dilger and Monroe in north Rapid City. The project includes five small affordable homes and is scheduled to be completed in 120 days.

Mayor Steve Allender spoke about the change that is happening in the community's mindset towards affordable housing and how the Village On Monroe is the start of more projects to follow.

Council member Lisa Modrick and Rapid City Police Chief Karl Jegeris were among community, business and industry officials attending the event. Robert Grimm, who will be the first homeowner in the project, was elated to walk over and place a 'Sold' sign on the board showing the homes.
