City Sets Building Permit Valuation Record For Month of May

CITY SETS PERMIT VALUATION RECORD

FOR SECOND CONSECUTIVE MONTH

**Valuation total for month tops $44 million

**Highest April/May valuation totals ever

**Second-highest # of permits ever issued in May

RAPID CITY, SD—The City’s Building Services Division issued the second-highest number of building permits ever for the month of May and the permit valuation was the largest ever for the fifth month of the calendar year.

            It was the second consecutive month with such numbers.  The City also issued the second highest number of building permits with the largest valuation total for the month of April in the City’s history.

            The City issued 501 building permits in May, second only to the 700 issued in May of 2014.  The permit valuation total of $44,452,882 shattered the previous record for May permit valuation of $32.6 million charted in 2012.

            Combining the April and May numbers, the City’s permit valuation total of $99.5 million shattered the previous April/May valuation mark set in 2012 of $72.93 million.  The City issued 1,060 permits during this past April/May period.  The only April/May period with a higher number of permits issued was in April/May of 2014 when 1,450 permits were issued.

            For the year, the City has issued 1,937 building permits, compared to 1,251 permits issued through May of 2020.

            The top-valued permits issued in May include:

            *SOUTH DAKOTA MULTI-AGENCY FACILITY: Permit issued to Sharaf 6 Properties LLC, valued at $14.91 million for the South Dakota Multi-Agency facility at 221 Mall Drive

            *CIRCLE K/HOLIDAY CONVENIENCE STORE: Permit issued to Double RF Development Company, valued at $4.6 million for the Circle K/Holiday convenience store at 2460 W. Chicago Street

            *ACCUPRESS ADDITION: Permit issued to Hilton Development Corporation, valued at $2.57 million for the addition to the Accupress facility at 450 Concourse Drive

            *PROPERTY MELD: Permit issue to 11 Main LLC, valued at $1.97 million for the Property Meld facility at 406 St. Joseph Street

            *LIQUOR STORE ADDITION: Permit issued to Moyle Petroleum Company, valued at $1.44 million for the liquor store addition at 3501 E. Highway 44

            *WESTHILLS VILLAGE UPGRADES: Permit issued to Presbyterian Retirement Village, valued at $1.29 million for roofing and railings upgrades at 255 Texas Street
