CITY SALES TAX RECEIPTS SURPASS
$3 MILLION FOR THIRD CONSECUTIVE MONTH
Totals top $10 million for June-August period
RAPID CITY, SD—The results are in and for Rapid City, it was a record-setting summer.
Sales tax revenue surpassed the $3 million mark for a third consecutive month in August as the City collected more than $3.27 million in July.
It is the 15th consecutive month with City sales tax revenue higher than the respective month from the previous year. The City has achieved more than $3 million in sales tax revenue in a month only four times – last December and this summer’s totals in June, July and August.
City sales tax receipts for the June-August period surpassed $10 million ($10,005,724), a 17.4 percent increase over the same period in 2020 and a 20.77 percent hike over the same summer period from 2019.
Sales tax revenue through eight months stands at $23,411,544. The eight-month total compares to $19,273,287 for the same period in 2020 and $18,084,047 through the first eight months of 2019.
“The numbers remain consistently solid and continue to reflect robust activity in the community,” said City Finance Director Pauline Sumption. “The numbers reflect what we’ve been hearing and seeing and that is, it was a busy summer in the area.”
