City's Trenching Board Seeks Input On Proposed Changes For Trenching Contractors

CITY’S TRENCHING BOARD SEEKS

INPUT ON PROPOSED CHANGES FOR TRENCHING CONTRACTORS

Board hosting May 20 public meeting;

City Council must approve any changes

RAPID CITY, SD—The City’s Trenching Board will host a public meeting seeking feedback on changes to the City’s code for trenching contractors and the operating manual for the trenching board.

                The meeting is scheduled for Thursday, May 20 at 7 a.m. in City Council Chambers.  The Trenching Board is seeking public comments and input from licensed contractors on proposed changes to the municipal code and the operating manual.

                For more than a year, the Rapid City Trenching Board and City staff have been working on changes to the Board’s operating manual and on updating Municipal Code 13.24, which governs sewer, water and trenching contractor licenses and the trenching board.

                Comments can be submitted to the City at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. with a deadline of 3 p.m. Wednesday, May 19.  If the Board approves the changes at the May 20 meeting, the items will be placed on the City Council’s June 7 meeting agenda for consideration.  No changes can be made to the City’s code or the board bylaws without City Council approval.

                The Rapid City Trenching Board protects the public’s health, safety and welfare and to guard against unsafe, unstable and short-lived product or services related to installation of sewer collection systems, water distribution systems and excavating in the public right-of-way.  The Board also ensures new or small volume contractors are able to obtain a license without hardship.
