Citizens Committee Will Review, Make Recommendations to Council

RAPID CITY, SD--The City received two dozen applications for Vision Fund resources from community organizations for a variety of projects, many calling for new, expanded or upgraded facilities.

The total combined cost of the projects is more than $66.7 million with Vision Fund requests by the groups totaling more than $28.7 million.

"It was a great response from the community," said Mayor Steve Allender.  "All of the projects are worthy of review and consideration for Vision Funds and once the Citizen's Committee has made its recommendations and the Council has provided approval, the selected projects will be a great benefit for Rapid City and our citizens well into the future."

The Citizen Vision Committee will conduct working sessions through November and schedule Vision Project hearings in December, providing thorough review of the applications.  It is anticipated recommendations will be brought forward to City officials in January with the City Council making the final decision early in 2019 on which community and city projects will receive Vision Funds.

"The Citizen Committee has its work cut out for it but it's a challenge we look forward to," said George Grassby, Committee chairman.  "Our collective sleeves are rolled up and we are ready to get to work."

A nine member citizen committee was approved by the City Council in August and Vision Fund applications were sought for eight weeks with an application deadline of October 12.
