CITY RECEIVES NOVEMBER SALES TAX REPORT

Sales tax receipts reach record levels;

Rate staying slightly ahead of Region’s inflation number

RAPID CITY, SD—Rapid City’s sales tax receipts for November came in at a record pace and totals are holding slightly ahead of the consumer price index numbers for the Midwest region.

The City’s tax receipts for November totaled $3,084,562, the first time receipts surpassed the $3 million mark for the month of November. With 11 of 12 months tallied, City sales tax receipts surpassed the $3 million mark in eight of the 11 months. By comparison, in 2021 when the City set a record for yearly sales tax receipts with more than $36 million, the City reached the $3 million mark five times.

The Consumer Price Index for the Midwest Region in November was up 6.8 percent over November 2021 levels.  Through November, Rapid City sales tax receipts totaled more than $34.8 million, 7.39 percent higher than the record 11-month mark of $32.4 million reported in November 2021.

             City Finance officials expect the December and 2022 final numbers from the state later in February.
