City Offices Closed, Services Suspended Wednesday For Veterans Day Observance

*Rapid Transit Service not operating

*Library facilities closed

*Roosevelt Swim Center & Ice Arena open

RAPID CITY,  SD--City offices will be closed Wednesday, November 11 in observance of Veterans' Day.  Most City services will be suspended for the day.

            The annual Rapid City Veterans' Day VFW parade and luncheon are cancelled this year due to COVID, however a brief ceremony with VFW officials and Mayor Steve Allender will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Veterans Memorial in Memorial Park.

            The Rapid City Landfill will be closed Wednesday.  Tuesday's trash and recycling collection will take place Monday, leave out until collected, with Wednesday's collection on Tuesday, leave out until collected.  There will be no changes to Monday, Thursday and Friday collections.

            Rapid Transit Service's RapidRide and Dial-A-Ride services will not be operating Wednesday. Students utilizing the 'Youth Ride Free' program on RapidRide must find alternate transportation on Veterans Day with school in session. 

            The downtown Rapid City Public Library will be closed Wednesday for the federal holiday.

            The Rushmore Plaza Civic Center will be open.

            The Rapid City Airport will be open Wednesday, however administrative offices will be closed.  Travelers should check with the airlines for arrival/departure information.  The administrative offices of both the Rapid City Fire Department and Rapid City Police Department will be closed Wednesday with normal shift operations in place.

            The Roosevelt Swim Center will be open normal hours Wednesday. Land group fitness, water group fitness and swim lessons will operate as scheduled. The Roosevelt Park Ice Arena also be open.
