RAPID CITY, SD--The City's Building Services Division issued the third highest-valued building permit on record Thursday with a single permit valued at more than $34.9 million. The permit was issued to Rapid City Regional Hospital for its Advanced Orthopedic and Sports Institute facility at 1635 Caregiver Circle.
With the permit issuance, the City's total permit valuation for 2017 surpasses the $300 million mark for the second consecutive year. Last year's $320 million in total permit valuation was a record high.
The $34.9 million single permit issuance to Rapid City Regional Hospital is third only to Black Hills Corporation's final permit of $45.8 million permit issued in March 2016 for the Black Hills Energy headquarters facility at 7001 Mount Rushmore Road, and the $38 million permit issued to Rapid City Regional Hospital in August for its phase two expansion.
"This large permit is an exclamation point on a very solid year for building activity in Rapid City," said Community Development Director Ken Young. "Starting with 2011, we experienced five consecutive years with total building valuation in excess of $200 million and the last two years we will be in excess of $300 million. Those numbers reflect continued growth in our community."
Total numbers for December and 2017 will be release in early January.
