THURSDAY OPEN HOUSE
SEEKS TRANSIT PLAN INPUT, FEEDBACK
Public can meet Transit staff, consultant
at Main Street Square session
RAPID CITY, SD—City officials are encouraging the public’s feedback and input on the Transit Development Plan this week with Rapid Transit System (RTS) and Community Development officials hosting an informational open house Thursday at Main Street Square.
The open house session begins at 5:30 p.m. behind the Main Street Square fountains, corner of Main and Sixth Streets.
Officials wrapped up a multiple-week virtual public meeting last month where the public could obtain information online about the Transit Development Plan and provide online input. This week’s open house at Main Street Square is an in-person opportunity for the public to visit with staff, learn about the Plan and provide feedback.
“We are working to maximize as many opportunities for feedback and input as possible on the Transit Development Plan,” said Kelly Brennan, Long-Range Transportation Planner, City of Rapid City. “Transportation is such a critical element in the growth of a community, so we want to share the plan with as many in the public as possible.”
The Rapid City Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) is working with RTS to develop the Rapid Transit Development Plan. The document will provide a vision for transit in the region over the next five to 10 years with an emphasis on future needs and sustainable growth. City officials indicate the Transit Development Plan will report on existing conditions, public feedback, community needs and recommendations for how RTS should align services to meet the needs of a growing region.
“The open house is an opportunity to stop and chat with Rapid Transit staff and the plan consultant,” said Megan Gould, Rapid Transit System manager. “We’ll have a booth with information, visual boards describing aspects of the plan and staff on hand to address questions and also provide information about RTS.”
Rapid Transit System operates the RapidRide, Dial-A-Ride and City View Trolley operations.
