City Employees Pick Winner of Sunday's Big Game & Other Game Favorites

CITY EMPLOYEES PICK WINNER OF SUNDAY’S BIG GAME

Also predict points to be scored, where they’ll watch game;

Identify best snacks & their favorite NFL teams

RAPID CITY, SD (February 9, 2024)—When it comes to Sunday’s NFL championship game, just about everyone has an opinion – whether it’s picking the winner, how many points will be scored, sharing their views on singer Taylor Swift, or deciding what favorite food to snack on during the big game.

            City employees are no different - and they are not shy about sharing their sentiments about Sunday’s Super Bowl LVIII (58). This week, City employees were surveyed on who they think will win between the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers.  They also shared views on their favorite snacks, how many points will be scored, why they’ll be watching the big game (Taylor Swift!), where they’ll be watching the game, whether they’ll tune in to the halftime show and which NFL team is their personal favorite.

PICK THE WINNER:

The Chiefs get the nod from 63.2% percent of City employees responding to the survey, while 36.8% are picking the 49ers.

POINTS SCORED:

As to points scored, 56.1% expect less than 50 points to be scored with 43.9% expecting a higher scoring game over 50 points.

WILL YOU WATCH THE GAME AND WHERE WILL YOU WATCH IT?

Nearly all of the respondents, 94.7%, plan to watch the game, with more than seven in 10 (70.4%) watching the game at home.  Another 20.4% will attend a house party with family or friends to catch the game with 7.4% catching the game at a bar or restaurant. The remaining 1.8% plan to catch the game on radio.

WHAT IS THE MAIN REASON YOU’LL BE WATCHING THE GAME?

Exactly half of the respondents (50%) will watch the Super Bowl to see which team wins.  So what’s the main reason for watching the big game by the other 50%?  Of the group, (21.3%) will be watching the game for the commercials with another 13 percent watching the game to catch a glimpse of singer Taylor Swift.  A total of 12 percent say their main reason for viewing the game is to be with friends and enjoy the snacks.  The remaining 3.7% are watching the game to catch the halftime show.

WILL YOU CATCH THE HALFTIME SHOW?

More than three-quarters of the respondents, 77.7%, do plan to catch the Super Bowl halftime show featuring Usher.

FAVORITE SUPER BOWL SNACK:

When it comes to favorite snacks for America’s big game, City employees selected a trio of snacks as clear favorites. Chicken or buffalo wings get the nod from 20.4% of respondents, followed very close behind by chips and dips (19.4%) and nachos/chips & queso (18.5%).   Little smokies are the favorite snack of 9.2% of respondents followed by various dips at 6.4%, pizza at 4.6% and chili at 5.6%.  Beer was referenced as a combination feature to many of the snacks.

IF YOU WEREN’T WATCHING THE GAME…

A few dozen respondents shared what they would do if they weren’t watching the game, with a third indicating they’d go to a movie or watch a favorite television show.  Some would go shopping, go hunting or fishing, go hiking, check out the puppy/kitten bowl on television, play video games or work.

WHICH NFL TEAM IS YOUR FAVORITE?

As to favorite teams, 18 of the NFL’s 32 teams were referenced by survey respondents.  Among the group,  18.5% claim to be avid Minnesota Vikings fans while 11.1% of respondents are fans of the Green Bay Packers. The Dallas Cowboys, Kansas City Chiefs, Denver Broncos and ‘no team’ were each tabbed by 9.3 percent of survey takers.  The Chicago Bears and San Francisco 49ers were mentioned as favorite teams of 5.6% each of respondents.  The Las Vegas Raiders and Philadelphia Eagles were the only other teams receiving multiple votes.
