CITY COUNCIL APPROVES FIRST READING OF 2025 CITY BUDGET
Council approves two amendments involving Youth City Council and downtown beautification
RAPID CITY, SD—In a special budget session Monday night, the Rapid City Council approved first reading of the City’s proposed 2025 budget, approving two amendments.
The Council voted 7-2 to earmark $100,000 from the City Council contingency budget for downtown beautification. The Council also voted 6-3 to increase the Youth City Council budget $10,000 with a corresponding reduction of $10,000 in a line item from the Pennington County Search and Rescue budget allocation. The increase would offset cuts in the Youth Council budget approved by the Pennington County Commission and would maintain the youth group’s overall budget at this year’s allocation.
State law requires municipal budgets receive two formal ‘readings’ with approval by the City Council by the end of September. Second reading of the 2025 City budget is anticipated for next Monday’s City Council meeting. The regularly-scheduled Council meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. in Council Chambers of City Hall.
The proposed City budget is available on the City’s website at www.rcgov.org in the ‘Community Bookmark’ section of the home page. The first item in the section is entitled ‘2025 Proposed City Budget’. The budget is also available on the Mayor’s Office page.
