CITY BEGINS 2021 WITH SOLID

BUILDING PERMIT NUMBERS

RAPID CITY, SD--Rapid City opened 2021 with a solid building start, as the City's Building Services Division issued 254 building permits in January with a combined valuation total of $31.3 million.  The valuation total outpaces the January totals from the past two years combined.

By comparison, the City issued 226 permits in January 2020 with a valuation total of $10.3 million.  In January 2019, the City issued 193 permits with a valuation total of $11.9 million.

"The year is off to a good start," said Community Development Director Ken Young. "You don't build a pattern from just one month's activity, but given the strong building trend that was maintained throughout the months of COVID-19 last year, we hope to continue the trend through 2021."

January's permit activity was paced by the permits issued to Paradigm Construction LLC for 'The Element' at 100 St. Joseph Street ($14,780,000); to Acquisition Group IV LLC for a 42-unit apartment complex at 3200 Jaffa Garden Way ($4,664,879); and to ANR Enterprises LLC for the Robbins Building at 4725 Berelli Drive ($535,750).

January's total also included 24 building permits for new single family homes with a collective valuation total of $4.63 million and six permits for new townhouses with a collective valuation of more than $1.2 million.
