ARBOR DAY 2024
HORACE MANN STUDENTS ASSISTING PARKS CREWS TO PLANT TREES THURSDAY
Effort is part of Arbor Day observance
RAPID CITY, SD—Horace Mann Elementary School students joined crews from the Rapid City Parks Department to plant trees at Horace Mann Park Thursday (April 25) as part of this year’s Arbor Day observance.
Fourth and fifth grade students from the elementary school took part in the event. The students assisted crews and received hands-on training in planting trees. Parks crews will be spending most of the week planting 48 trees of numerous varieties. As part of the event, Rapid City Council member Pat Roseland shared an Arbor Day mayoral proclamation.
“We look forward to Arbor Day every year as our crews work with the kids and share with them about the planting process,” said Jason Preble, City Forestry and Landscape supervisor. “It’s as much fun for the crews as it is for the kids. It’s a great way for the kids to learn how to plant trees and take part in the process.”
In recent years, Parks crews have teamed with students to plant trees at Wilson Park, Robbinsdale Park, Raider Park at Rapid City Stevens High School and the Rushmore Little League grounds.
Rapid City has been recognized by the Arbor Day Foundation with its Tree City USA designation.
