PROCLAMATION ISSUED BY MAYOR

Event has $22 million impact on local economy

RAPID CITY, SD--The Black Hills Stock Show and Rodeo has a rich and honored tradition in the community.  The annual event has an estimated economic impact of $22 million, attracts hundreds of thousands of people annually and combines the nation's top rodeo talent with the best rodeo stock in the country.

            Mayor Steve Allender is declaring today through February 6 as Black Hills Stock Show and Rodeo Week and urges residents of the Black Hills to attend and show support for one of the region's top events.

            Mayor Allender will share comments and the proclamation at this morning's Stock Show Press Social and Ribbon Cutting at 9 a.m. in Rushmore Hall of the Civic Center.  The event will include various event, state, county and local officials.

            "We come together to celebrate the South Dakota quality of life and good old western hospitality," Mayor Allender states in the proclamation.

            "The commitment to excellence, by everyone involved, from Rodeo Rapid City to the management, staff and volunteers of the Monument and Black Hills Stock Show and Rodeo results in showcasing the best rodeo action and event in the country; reflected in December's announcement of Rodeo Rapid City as the PRCA Large Indoor Rodeo of the Year for 2020."

            In the proclamation, Mayor Allender commends the vision and passion of all involved to make the annual event a reality for everyone to enjoy.

WHEREAS, The Black Hills Stock Show & Rodeo has been an important part of the farm and agriculture industry in Rapid City and the western South Dakota region; and

WHEREAS, The Central States Fair organization is an important component in producing and supporting the Black Hills Stock Show & Rodeo for over 60 years; and

WHEREAS, The Black Hills Stock Show & Rodeo is one of the largest events in Rapid City with over 300,000 people attending each year; with an economic impact of $22 million; and

WHEREAS, The Central States Fair management, staff, the board of directors, community leaders, City of Rapid City, Pennington County, The Monument and the hundreds of volunteers have provided the vision and passion to make this annual event a reality for all to enjoy; and

WHEREAS, this commitment to excellence, by everyone involved, from Rodeo Rapid City to the management, staff and volunteers of The Monument and Black Hills Stock Show and Rodeo results in showcasing the best rodeo action and event in the country; reflected in December's announcement of Rodeo Rapid City as the PRCA Large Indoor Rodeo of the Year for 2020; and

WHEREAS, This marks the 63rd Annual Black Hills Stock Show & Rodeo in Rapid City, Pennington County and Western South Dakota.  We come together to celebrate the South Dakota quality of life and good old western hospitality this January 29 through February 6.

NOW, therefore, I, Steve Allender, Mayor of Rapid City, South Dakota, hereby proclaim January 29 through February 6, 2021 as

Black Hills Stock Show & Rodeo Week

In Rapid City and urge all Black Hills residents to attend and show their support at one of the many exciting events.
