81,000 CITY POOL ADMISSIONS RECORDED DURING “VERY BUSY” SUMMER SEASON
RAPID CITY, SD—Data released from the City’s Parks and Recreation Department Wednesday reflects the public flocked to the City’s pools this summer in large numbers, seeking relief from consistently hot temperatures.
A total of 81,025 admissions were recorded at the Sioux Park, Parkview, Horace Mann and Roosevelt Park Swim Center pools during the summer period of June 1-August 17, when all pools were open to the public.
The total is considerably higher than the 73,097 admissions recorded last summer when chilly temperatures and rain impacted attendance, and slightly higher than the 80,412 admissions from the 2022 summer pool season.
All four pools reported increases over a year ago.
“It was a very busy summer,” said City Aquatics Program Specialist Teaghan Slagle. “Overall, we had a lot of hot days and packed pools with many people seeking relief.”
Two of the City’s pools closed after August 17 with an early start to the school year and many lifeguards leaving to return to high school and college. Hours were adjusted at the Sioux Park and Swim Center outdoor pools through Labor Day as temperatures remained high.
City Recreation officials encourage the public to utilize the Roosevelt Swim Center as a great option for swimming during the fall, winter and spring months. Anyone wishing to serve as a lifeguard for the 2025 summer season can contact the City’s Recreation Division at 605-394-4175 for more information.
