In January 1972, Aretha Franklin recorded her live best-selling gospel album, Amazing Grace, performed over two nights at the New Temple Missionary Baptist Church in Watts, Los Angeles. The session included the Southern California Community Choir & was captured in front of an adoring congregation including Mick Jagger, Charlie Watts & Franklin's father, Baptist minister C L Franklin.

The film was to have been originally released as a television special directed by Sydney Pollack but due to major technical gaffes during filming, the project was abandoned. Then former Atlantic producer, Alan Elliott, used digital technology to bring the film back to its historical glory.

Amazing Grace is a celebration of life, music & the African-American community of that era.

Doughnuts & beverages will be served.

Amazing Grace is rated G.

Documentary films provide a deeper study of timely, often unnoticed social issues. Their compelling storytelling engages the heart & mind allowing us to walk in another's shoes, oftentimes providing those rebuffed a voice, ultimately building a sense of shared humanity.
