RCPD & PCSO host multi-day International Conference of Police Chaplains training event

Law Enforcement Chaplains from surrounding states will meet at the Public Safety Building in Rapid City this week to learn new ways to serve law enforcement, their families, and the communities they serve. This training is for ICPC Region 3, which includes South Dakota, North Dakota, Nebraska, Iowa & Minnesota.

Over the three days chaplains will take classes taught by well trained, experienced, and sought after instructors, including ICPC chaplains from around the country and Officers and Chaplains from the Rapid City Police Department and Pennington County Sheriff’s Office. There will be approximately 40 chaplains attending.

Around the world, Police Chaplains serve law enforcement agencies to be a resource for officers and their families. Chaplains spend time riding along with officers and participating in department training and functions to better understand the officers’ role and the struggles that come with the job. Chaplains are available to Officers at any time to offer support, encouragement and resources. In addition to serving officers, chaplains are often called out by law enforcement to provide care for people experiencing a traumatic event, such as the loss of a loved one.

The International Conference of Police Chaplains (ICPC) serves and provides training to law enforcement chaplains (volunteer or paid), officers, and agency administrators.

Departments, regardless of size, receive the benefits and information needed to develop and/or enhance their chaplaincy program. Training provides continuing education credits (CEU), as well as equipping attendees to better serve law enforcement officers, families and communities.
