Thanks to a generous grant from NWE Management Company, the RCPD has been able to purchase two new electric mountain bikes to be utilized by the agency’s Bike Patrol Unit.

In the winter of 2018, Todd Hollan (who is the Director of Operations for NWE Management Company) approached the RCPD with a $5,000 donation with the request it be used specifically for the RCPD’s Bike Patrol Unit. In early 2019, the RCPD purchased two electric pedal-assist mountain bikes using the donation.

The bikes will be used to provide proactive patrols along the city’s bikes path and park system during the warmer months. The electric pedal assist feature means officers will be able to more-rapidly respond to emergency situations along the city’s elevated hiking/biking trails.

“We anticipate that the electric assist feature on these new bikes will be a tremendous asset to our bike patrol officers, especially when dealing with emergency situations,” says Lt. Brian Blenner, Commander of the RCPD’s Bike Patrol Unit. “We are incredibly grateful for the generous donation from NWE that allowed us to purchase these bikes, and plan to use them as much as possible in order to keep our parks, hiking trails, and bike path the safest places they can be.”

With the onset of spring and warmer weather, the public can anticipate seeing an increased presence of Bike Patrol officers along the bike path, city park system, and in the downtown area.
