Community Crime Map helps keep Rapid City residents in the know about crime in their neighborhood

The Rapid City Police Department would like to remind residents that they have the ability to quickly and easily review crime incidents using the RCPD’s Community Crime Map. The Community Crime Map is available online by visiting http://www.communitycrimemap.com and entering ‘Rapid City, SD’ into the address bar. A link to the Community Crime Map is also available on the RCPD’s homepage at www.RapidCityPolice.org.

From there, the public can easily select the date range and the types of incidents they would like to see projected on a map of Rapid City. This information is directly generated from the incoming calls-for-service that are dispatched to officers of the Rapid City Police Department.

“This crime map has been available to the public for several years, but we hope to remind the public they can utilize this service to gain a better understanding of the police response to crime throughout the city,” says Chief of Police Karl Jegeris. “The community is one of our most valuable resources in the fight against crime, and we rely on the public’s help in many elements of our job. The Community Crime Map is just one more tool we can use to enhance our quality working relationship with the community we serve.”

The RCPD is also in the preliminary stages of compiling its annual Statistical Crime Analysis for 2016. It is anticipated that this report will be released in the mid-January timeframe.
