10 new officers welcomed to the Rapid City Police Department

10 new officer-recruits have begun their training with the Rapid City Police Department. The new recruits will be officially sworn in as officers on July 17th.

The Summer 2018 recruit class consists of:

  • Connor Auteberry – Officer Auteberry comes to the RCPD after serving as a purchasing assistant for the Black Hills Surgical Hospital. He is pursuing a degree in Criminal Justice from Liberty University and enjoys hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family.
  • Carlee Harris – Officer Harris grew up in Rapid City. A graduate of Central High School, she received her degree in Law Enforcement Technology from Western Dakota Tech. In her off time, Officers Harris enjoys swimming, working out, and hiking.
  • Ryan Hirsch – Rapid City has been home for Officer Hirsch since he was born. Also a graduate of Central High School, Officer Hirsch comes to the RCPD after serving as a Correctional Officer with the Pennington County Jail. When he’s not serving the community, he can be found working out or playing video games.
  • Joshua Hoefler – Officer Hoefler is a California native who comes to Rapid City with his wife and two children. Spending time with his family, sport shooting, and ice hockey take up his off time.
  • Clayton Johnson – Officer Johnson has called Rapid City home most of his life. He comes to the RCPD with education in the fields of Criminal Justice and Wildlife & Fisheries. Officer Johnson has spent time working for the SD Department of Game, Fish, and Parks, and spends much of his free time outdoors either kayaking, fishing, camping, or skiing.
  • Christian Macrander – Officer Macrander comes to Rapid City from Ottumwa, Iowa. His education includes a degree in Communication Arts with a minor in Rhetorical Studies. Officer Macrander’s hobbies include backpacking, travelling, and axe throwing.
  • Kraig McInally – A native of Michigan, Officer McInally served in the United States Army as an infantry paratrooper. Hunting, fishing, hiking, and travelling take up Officer McInally’s free time.
  • Rudy Munoz – Officer Munoz has lived in Rapid City since 2015. Originally a native of Texas, Officer Munoz served in the United States Air Force and earned degrees in Aerospace Technology and Military Instruction. When it comes to hobbies, he enjoys anything that gets him outdoors.
  • Melanie Oakley – Officer Oakley is originally from Newcastle, Wyoming. Prior to joining the RCPD, she received her degree in Law Enforcement Technology from Wester Dakota Tech. In her free time, she likes hiking and spending time with her dogs.
  • Chloe Parker – Originally from Tennessee , Officer Parker joins the Rapid City Police Department with education that includes Biology and Psychology. Her hobbies include grappling, hiking, and running.

These officers will continue their in-house training at the RCPD. From there, they will leave to attend the 13-week state police academy in Pierre. After graduating from the academy later this year, the new officers will be certified to work in law enforcement in South Dakota. The officers will then be required to complete the RCPD’s Police Officer Field Training Program before receiving a permanent shift assignment for the remainder of their 18-month probationary period.
