Military rations represent technological innovation & what we eat. John R Dreyer, Associate Professor of Political Science at the South Dakota School of Mines & Technology, connects the history of military rations & how they are tied to a nation’s culture & eating habits.
John R Dreyer, PhD is a 2008 graduate of the University of Tennessee at Knoxville & a 2000/2003 graduate of Bowling Green State University in Northwest Ohio. He teaches & writes about military history, strategic studies & international security, having co-authored Small States in the International System & authored The Little Bighorn Staff Ride. Dreyer’s interest in rations & military cookery comes naturally as a native of Toledo, Ohio watching freighters on the Great Lakes & enjoying the culinary delicacies of his hometown.
