In 2023, the City of Rapid City was awarded a Climate Pollution Reduction Grant (CPRG) from the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) on behalf of the Rapid City Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA). The CPRG program provides funding for local governments to develop plans for reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and other harmful air pollution.
The key deliverables of the CPRG program include:
- GHG Inventory - due March 1, 2024*
- Rapid City Summary Emissions - full GHG Inventory available upon request
- Data, Methods, and Assumption Manual
- Priority Climate Action Plan (PCAP) - due March 1, 2024*
- Comprehensive Climate Action Plan (CCAP) - due December 2025
- Status Report - due August 2027

Development of the Comprehensive Climate Action Plan will involve broad community outreach to create a long-term strategy for reducing GHG emissions and air pollution in the Rapid City MSA. Please reach out if you would like to be involved!
