 BIG SKY AREA
Street Closures and Asphalt Milling and Overlay

Degeest Drive from Avenue A to Big Sky Drive and Avenue A from Degeest Drive to approximately 200 feet east of the intersection of Carl Avenue and will be closed to traffic for street reconstruction work from September 7, 2017 to October 1, 2017.

Construction crews will also start the asphalt milling and overlay on Aurora Drive from Avenue A to Elmer Street, Carl Avenue from Avenue A to Elmer Street, South Pitch from Aurora Drive to Carl Avenue and Hansen Lane from Aurora Drive to Carl Avenue. Residents in the area should have any vehicles off the street between 6:00 AM and 6:00 PM during the asphalt milling and overlay of the streets.

Glenshire Court and Glenshie Drive at Wisconsin Avenue
Yield Signs Replaced with Stop Signs

Effective Tuesday, August 8, 2017, the existing Yield signs on Glenshire Court and Glenshire Drive at Wisconsin Avenue will be replaced with Stop signs. Traffic on Glenshire Court and Glenshire Drive will be required to stop at Wisconsin Avenue before proceeding.  If you have any questions, please contact Traffic Operations at 394-4118.

RAPID VALLEY AREA
Construction Work

Starting Monday July 31 construction will begin on Hansen Ln, Aurora Dr., Carl Ave., S. Pitch Dr., and Avenue A from Degeest Dr.to 150 East of Carl Ave. Degeest Dr. from Big Sky Dr. to Avenue A will follow.  This will take 3 months to complete.  For questions contact Hills Materials at 394-3300.

4th Street
Lane Closure

The northbound lane on 4th Street from Quincy Street to Kansas City Street will be closed to traffic from August 21, 2017 to August 30, 2017 for utility construction work.  If you have any questions, please contact Scull Construction Services, Inc. at (605) 342-2379.

5th Street (NEW)
Traffic Restriction and Street Closure

Northbound and southbound traffic on 5th Street will be reduced to one lane, each direction, from approximately 150 feet south of Minnesota Street to 400 feet north of Minnesota Street beginning September 18, 2017 for the first phase of concrete panel repair project. This portion of the project is expected to be completed October 6, 2017.
In addition, Minnesota Street will be closed to traffic west of 5th Street for construction repair work. The detour will be via Anna Marie Drive and Alta Vista Street.

5th Street
Lane Cosure

Northbound traffic on North 5th Street will be reduced to one lane at the Intersection of New York Street from September 5, 2017 to September 8, 2017 for storm sewer construction work.  If you have any questions, please contact Hills Materials Company at (605) 394-3300.

Anamosa Street
Street Closure

Anamosa Street will be closed to through traffic from North Maple Avenue to Midway Street from May 11, 2017 to October 15, 2017 for street and utility reconstruction work.  If you have any questions, please contact Hills Materials Company at (605) 394-3300.

Baldwin Street
Street Closure

Baldwin Street from Wedgewood Drive west to South Berry Pine Road will be closed to through traffic from March 27, 2017 to November 17, 2017 for street and utility reconstruction work.  If you have any questions, please contact R.C.S. Construction, Inc.

East Fairmont Boulevard (NEW)
Traffic Restriction

Traffic will be restricted on East Fairmont Boulevard between Elm Avenue and Ivy Avenue on Thursday, September 14, 2017 for private utility repair work. East and westbound traffic flow will be controlled by flaggers. East Knollwood Drive Cul-de-Sac
Traffic Restriction

Traffic will be restricted on the East Knollwood Drive Cul-de-Sac located east of North Maple Avenue from August 28, 2017 to November 1, 2017 for a water main abandonment project.  If you have any questions, please contact Highmark, Inc. at (605) 718-7424.

East North Street
Traffic Restriction

Eastbound traffic on East North Street will be reduced to one lane on Tuesday, September 5, 2017, from Racine Street to North La Crosse Street, for private utility work. East Saint Joseph Street (NEW)
Lane Closure

Westbound traffic on East Saint Joseph Street will be reduced to one lane of traffic between East Meade Street and East Saint Patrick Street from September 11, 2017 to September 20, 2017 for private utility construction work.  If you have any questions, please contact Montana-Dakota Utilities at 1-800-638-3278.

Flormann Street
Street Closure

Flormann Street from Mount Rushmore Road to South Ridge Road will be closed to traffic from September 5, 2017 to November 15, 2017 for construction of a drainage channel and sanitary sewer main. Haines Avenue from Cobalt Drive to Auburn Drive
Construction Work

Road Closure

Mall Drive
Lane Restriction

Mallow Street
Street Closure

Mount Rushmore Road
Intermittent Closures of Northbound Intersections

Beginning Thursday, Aug. 10, motorists can expect intermittent closures of the east half of the intersections of Mount Rushmore Road with Saint Cloud, Franklin, Saint Charles, and Saint Andrew streets for pavement removal followed by installation of water and sewer lines. Saint Cloud Street and Franklin Street will each be intermittently closed from the Mount Rushmore Road intersection to the east approximately 70 feet. Saint Charles Street will be intermittently closed from the Mount Rushmore Road intersection to the east approximately 135 feet. Saint Andrew Street will be intermittently closed from the Mount Rushmore Road intersection to the east approximately 160 feet. Be advised that more than one street may be closed at the same time.

Motorists are asked to slow down through the work zone and be prepared for: suddenly slowing, merging and stopped traffic, minor delays, loose gravel, uneven surfaces and bumps, as well as construction workers and equipment adjacent to the roadway.

Mount Rushmore Road
Traffic Shift

A traffic shift on Mount Rushmore Road is tentatively scheduled to start Wednesday, Aug. 9. Traffic will be shifted to the new southbound lanes and construction will begin with surface removal on the northbound lanes from Saint James Street through Saint Patrick Street. This phase of the project will run through January 2018 and will include:

  • Traffic Control
  • Northbound road surface removal
  • Water and storm sewer construction
  • Grading, graveling and concrete placement
  • Sidewalks and driveways

Business access on Mount Rushmore Road will remain open at all times. Motorists are asked to slow down while driving through the work zone and be prepared for suddenly slowing, merging and stopped traffic, minor delays, and construction workers and equipment adjacent to the roadway

MOUNT RUSHMORE ROAD (UPDATED September 6, 2017)

Work on water line and storm sewer installation continues on Mount Rushmore Road and is anticipated to be through Franklin Street by the end of next week. Surfacing work will follow in this area. During work on water, sewer, and surfacing, there will be intermittent closures of intersections on the east side of Mount Rushmore Road from Saint Cloud Street to Saint Andrew Street. The pedestrian crossing to Wilson Elementary School is at Franklin Street. When Franklin Street is closed the pedestrian crossing will be at Saint Charles Street.

Saint Anne Street, from Mount Rushmore Road to the east approximately 120-feet, will be closed tomorrow for concrete work and is anticipated to be closed for approximately one week. Next week Saint Francis Street, from Mount Rushmore Road to the east approximately 100-feet, will be closed for concrete work. Both streets may be closed at the same time. Saint Anne and Saint Francis streets are anticipated to be paved mid-September. Work is being done on curb and gutter, retaining walls, sidewalk, lighting, and landscape on the east side of Mount Rushmore Road, from Flormann Street to Saint Francis Street.

Work is being done on retaining walls, sidewalk, lighting, and landscape on the west side of Mount Rushmore Road from Saint James Street to Saint Patrick Street.

A Temporary Pedestrian Access Route is being maintained on the west side of Mount Rushmore Road from Flormann Street to Saint Patrick Street, on the east side of Mount Rushmore Road from Saint Patrick Street to Saint Andrew Street, and on the west side of Mount Rushmore Road from Saint Andrew Street to Saint James Street.

Business access on Mount Rushmore Road will remain open at all times. Left-hand turns across traffic are discouraged to allow for continued flow of traffic. Motorists are asked to slow down through the work zone and be prepared for: suddenly slowing, merging and stopped traffic, minor delays, loose gravel, uneven surfaces and bumps, as well as construction workers and equipment adjacent to the roadway.

Powderhorn Drive
Lane Closure, Construction Work and Tempoary "NO PARKING" Restrictions

Powderhorn Drive will be reduced to one lane of traffic from Red Rock Canyon Road to Chapel Valley Road from August 10, 2017 to September 22, 2017. Telemark Court and Powderhorn Circle at the intersection of Powderhorn Drive will be included in this work.

The work consists of spot repairs of curb and gutter, full depth asphalt removal, base course, and asphalt paving. Motorist should expect a gravel surface while traveling with minor delays. Such traffic will be maintained by a flagger. Prestwick Road
Construction Work and Sidewalk Closure

Effective Monday, August 14, 2017, the North Side of Prestwick Road will be restricted from Muirfield Drive to Meadowlark Drive for construction purposes related to the Red Rock Booster Pump Station. Through traffic will be maintained. The sidewalk on Prestwick Road along the north side of the golf course will be closed to pedestrian traffic. Radar Hill Road
Heavy Construction Traffic

Effective immediately there will be traffic control near the intersection of Radar Hill Road and Morris Lane for construction of a new Pressure Reducing Valve Facility. Robbinsdale Park (NEW)
Park Closure

Robinsdale Park and Robbinsdale Park Road from East Fairmont Boulevard to East Oakland Street will be closed to through traffic from September 18, 2017 to May 15, 2018 for grading and storm sewer construction work.  If you have any questions, please contact R.C.S. Seger Drive
Street Closures

Seger Drive from the intersection of 143rd Avenue to the intersection of North La Crosse Street and East Mall Drive will be closed to traffic from March 21, 2017 to November 17, 2017 for drainage improvements and utility and road reconstruction work.  Please use an alternate route of travel.  Freeland Subdivision north of Seger Drive can be accessed via the intersection of East Mall Drive and Seger Drive.  If you have any questions, please contact Highmark, Inc. at (605) 718-7424.

Skyline Drive (NEW)
Traffic Restriction

Traffic will be restricted and controlled with a flagger on Skyline Drive from Flormann Street north to the KEVN Television Station from September 13 to September 14, 2017 for asphalt patching and overlay of the street.  If you have any questions, please contact Site Work Specialists at (605) 355-0933..

South Berry Pine Road
Street Closure

Southside Drive #1
Construction Work

Effective Thursday, March 30, 2017, utility work for the City’s Rapid City Water Expansion-Southside Drive Water Main Extension project will begin.  The project includes the area to the west of the intersection of Southside Drive and Redemption Road, work will continue to the west to Anderson Road and the southeast side along Anderson Road to Winton Street.  During this time of utility improvements, the work for the project will be occurring along the south shoulder of Southside Drive and the east shoulder of Anderson Road.  All work will be complete by November 17, 2017.  If you have any questions, please contact Lind-Exco, Inc. at (605) 348-6115.

West Main Street
Traffic Restriction

Effective Monday August, 28, 2017 traffic on West Main Street will be restricted from West Boulevard to 11th Street for private work in Halley Park. Effective Wednesday, September 6, 2017, utility work for the City’s West Omaha Drainage and Utility Improvements project will begin on West Rapid Street between Canal Street and Cross Street.
