Franklin Street at 6th Street
New Stop Sign

Effective Tuesday, September 17, 2019, all traffic at Franklin Street will be required to stop at the intersection with 6th Street.

Downtown Alley Restrictions
Traffic Closure

Effective Thursday, September 12, 2019, MDU will be working in the alley located between 1st Street and 5th Street north of Main Street.  Partial alley closures/restrictions will be in place until September 27, 2019.

Disk Drive and Haines Avenue
Traffic Restriction

Starting Monday, September 9, 2019, the traffic control for the ongoing utility and street replacement project occurring at the intersection of Disk Drive and Haines Avenue will be reconfigured.  The three eastern lanes on Haines Avenue and the northern lane on Disk Drive will be closed.  Traffic will continue to be restricted to a single lane in either direction on both Haines Avenue and Disk Drive.  Commuters can expect significant delays and are encouraged to seek an alternate route.  This work is expected to be completed by November 15, 2019.

Main Street - 5th Street to 7th Street
Traffic Restriction

Effective Monday, September 9, 2019, a portion of Main Street will be reduced to one lane traffic. The two southern most lanes will be closed from 5th Street to 7th Street. Tru-Form Construction will be completing a valve and panel repair project.  The first phase of this project was completed in the spring and the second phase will be completed this month.  The split phasing was necessary to lessen the impact on the traveling public and tourist season. This work is expected to be completed by September 30, 2019.

Mount Rushmore Road at Main Street
Lane Closure

Effective immediately, the inside northbound lane of Mount Rushmore Road at the intersection with Main Street is closed as crews repair a concrete patch that buckled the morning of August 23, 2019.  Northbound traffic will be limited to one lane as crews do the repairs.

The area is scheduled for more extensive work beginning September 3, 2019.

Effective Monday, August 19, 2019, MDU will be working in the alley located between 6th Street and West Boulevard between Saint Joseph Street and Main Street.  Partial alley closures/restrictions will be in place until September 19, 2019.

Berry Boulevard at West Chicago Street
Yield Sign replaced with Stop Sign

Effective Monday, August 19, 2019, the existing Yield sign on Berry Boulevard at West Chicago Street will be replaced with a Stop sign.  All traffic on Berry Boulevard will be required to come to a stop before turning left or right onto West Chicago Street.

E Monroe Street & Waterloo Street
Road Closure

Starting Thursday, August 15, 2019, the following streets will have asphalt and curb & gutter repairs:

    • E Monroe Street from N LaCrosse to Waterloo Street
    • Waterloo Street from E Monroe Street to E Watertown Street.

This work should be completed by September 13, 2019, weather permitting.

Tompkins Street between Fulton and Clark
Closed to through traffic

Effective Monday, August 5, 2019, the portion of Tompkins Street located between Fulton and Clark Street will be closed for the Fulton Street Reconstruction Project. The duration of the road closure in this immediate area will be for approximately 2 months. The sidewalks in the area will also be closed.

Fulton Street will remain closed from West Boulevard to 9th Street for the completion of Phase 4 of the reconstruction project. The sidewalks in the area will also remain closed.

The portion of Fulton Street will also remain closed from West Boulevard to 11th Street for the Fulton Street Reconstruction project. The sidewalks in the area will also be closed.

Founders Park Drive Bridge
Lane Closure

Beginning July 22, 2019, the bridge located on Founders Park Drive north of the Omaha Street and 12th Street/Founders Park Drive intersection near the Executive Golf Course will be reduced to one lane of traffic.  Signals will be installed to control traffic across the bridge.  A pedestrian detour will be provided utilizing the bike path.  The bike path will remain unimpeded by the construction.

The bridge is being rehabilitated under a South Dakota Department of Transportation contract.  Upon completion in October, the bridge will return to two traffic lanes with a dedicated pedestrian/golf cart lane that will be separated by a barrier.

The work is being completed by Heavy Constructors of Rapid City.  Any questions regarding the construction can be directed to the contractor at (605) 342-3152.

East Fairlane Drive
Closed to Through Traffic

Effective Monday, July 8, 2019, East Fairlane Drive will be closed to through traffic east of Elm Street to the dead end of the street past the intersection with Ivy Avenue.  This reconstruction is expected to be completed by October 20, 2019.

Range Road & 38th Street
Street Closure

Effective Monday, June 24, 2019, 38th Street will be closed from the intersection of Range Road to Burns Drive. Vehicular and pedestrians detours will be provided.  The work in the Range Road intersection will be completed prior to the beginning of school.  The overall completion date for the project is October 18, 2019.

Fulton Street
Closed to Through Traffic

Effective Monday, June 17, 2019, Fulton Street from West Boulevard to the alley west of 11th Street will be closed to through traffic for the Fulton Street Reconstruction project. The duration of the road closure will be for approximately 3 months. The sidewalks in this area will be closed.

St Cloud Street
Road Closure

Phase 1 of St Cloud Street construction work will begin March 25, 2019 at intersection of St. Cloud and West Blvd west through 11th Street intersection. St. Cloud will be closed to traffic through duration of construction with restricted access west of 11th Street intersection.
