At around 11:30 a.m. on July 21st, the Rapid City Police Department responded to the area of 5200 Pinedale Circle after a report of gunshots heard in the area. The person responsible for the gunshots barricaded himself inside a nearby residence and the Pennington County/Rapid City Special Response Team responded to the location to help resolve the situation.

After many hours of working to maintain communication with the barricaded individual, law enforcement lost contact with the suspect. Members of the Special Response Team made entry to the home and took the suspect, identified as 44-year-old Robbie Rombough of Rapid City, into custody for Simple Assault Domestic Violence, Aggravated Assault, Aggravated Assault Domestic Violence, First Degree Burglary, Discharge of a Firearm at an Occupied Structure, and Commission of a Felony with a Firearm.

"We are extremely thankful the incident was safely resolved with no injuries to any of the involved parties," says Rapid City Chief of Police Don Hedrick.

"The City/County Special Response Team is specifically trained for these types of situations," says Pennington County Sheriff Brian Mueller. "Today, we attained our ultimate goal, which is the safe resolution of a tense and potentially dangerous incident."

The circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation.
