YO! RCPD Academy

Youth Outreach! The Rapid City Police Department Academy is a 5-week program for area youth ages 16-18 held each spring. The program is designed to educate participants about police work, encourage students to consider careers in law enforcement and motivate students to act as partners in building a safer community. The course is held each spring and covers topics ranging from Police Procedures and Investigations to Forensic Policing and Emergency Response. Students will have an opportunity to drive a patrol car through a challenge course, ride along with a patrol officer on shift, participate in a firearm course, and meet the K-9 Unit, among other activities.Requirements: Applicants must possess a valid driver’s license, pass a background check, have all forms completely, accurately and legibly filled out, written parent permission, and most importantly, have a desire and motivation to be in law enforcement and help in building a safer community.
