PARK SHELTER RESERVATIONS

Reservations are required at the following 6 shelters for use between May 1st and September 30th each year. These shelters are available October 1st through April 30th, on a "first come/first serve" use with limited amenities.

Canyon Lake Shelter #1 - 4111 Jackson Boulevard 
Enter at corner of Canyon Lake Dr. & Jackson Boulevard - First Shelter on right, by the Spillway.  PARK AMENITIES AVAILABLE: Grills, electricity, restrooms, playground equipment, next to Canyon Lake, access to the bike path and fishing.   

Canyon Lake Shelter #2 - 4021 Jackson Boulevard 
Enter at corner of Canyon Lake Dr. & Jackson Boulevard - Second Shelter located on the left.  PARK AMENITIES AVAILABLE: Grills, electricity, restrooms, playground equipment, near Canyon Lake, access to the bike path and fishing. 

Canyon Lake Shelter #3 - 4011 Jackson Boulevard 
Enter from Park Drive and go directly into parking lot. Shelter is the first one on the right.  PARK AMENITIES AVAILABLE: Grills, electricity, restrooms, playground equipment, near Canyon Lake, access to the bike path and fishing. 

Canyon Lake Park-Chimney Shelter - 4515 Jackson Boulevard 
Enter at intersection of Jackson Boulevard and Chapel Lane.  PARK AMENITIES AVAILABLE: Grills, electricity, next to Canyon Lake, access to the bike path and fishing.

 

Old Storybook Island Shelter - 2911 Canyon Lake Drive 
Enter at Parks Department Office, 2915 Canyon Lake Drive.  PARK AMENITIES AVAILABLE: Grills, electricity, restrooms, near Storybook Island, near Rapid Creek and acess to the bike path.

Robbinsdale Park Upper Shelter - 641 E. Oakland Street 
Enter Robbinsdale Park off Oakland Street and drive through the park up the hill. The shelter is located at the top of the hill and has a dramatic view of the surrounding area. PARK AMENITIES AVAILABLE: Grills, electricity, restrooms and playground equipment. The shelter is near the BMX Track and walking paths in Robbinsdale Park.

Reservations are taken by phone at 605-394-4175 or in person at the Parks and Recreation Administration Office at 515 West Boulevard.  Please note the reservation fee is due when the reservation is made.  Cancellations can be processed 30 days prior to the reservation date and there will be a $10.00 administrative fee applied to your refund.  Reservation fees will not refunded due to inclement weather.  Reservations may be made up to one year (365 days) in advance.

Park Shelter Information:

The Rapid City park system is well marked with regulations.  Primary regulations include:  

  • THE USE OF INFLATABLE STRUCTURES IS PROHIBITED
  • DO NOT USE STAKES OR SPIKES ON PARK LAND
  • NO ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES
  • PARK HOURS ARE FROM 5:00 A.M. TO 10:00 P.M.
  • ANIMALS MUST BE ON A LEASH
  • ELECTRIC OUTLETS ARE FOR FOOD PREPARATION ONLY
  • NO PARKING ON THE GRASS

Each shelter has electrical outlets (15 amps), attached restrooms, and lights which come on at 6 PM. There are tables inside the shelter to accommodate 36 people. Additional tables are typically located nearby. If you anticipate a large group you may want to bring your own trash bags. All trash should be placed in the nearby dumpster.You may decorate the shelter and various entrances or parkway drives for the purpose of offering directions to your event, but PLEASE DO NOT POUND NAILS INTO ANY TREES. We suggest using tape or ribbons, etc. You may rent additional tents, tables and chairs from private sources to be placed at your park shelter with permission from the Parks Division Manager. We strive to keep the shelters clean and the facilities working properly but occasionally problems occur that are beyond our control. Please let us know of any problems so they can be corrected. Damage to the property caused by misuse will be billed to the user on record.We are proud of our park system and want you to truly enjoy yourselves.
