Dr. Judy Sneller was appointed to the Library Board of Trustees in February 2019. She earned a B.A. in Humanities, with a minor in English, from the University of Central Florida in 1985, and a Ph.D. in American Studies from Emory University in 1992.
Dr. Sneller joined the faculty of South Dakota School of Mines & Technology in 1992, where she taught a variety of English and Humanities class until she retired as Professor Emerita in May 2017. During her 26 years as a college professor, Dr. Sneller published over a dozen peer-reviewed articles on topics such as gender in the classroom, using technology in the classroom, teaching technical communication, and the role of humor in American culture.
Dr. Sneller has served on a number of state and local organizations, including as President and Board Member of the Rapid City Arts Council; as Board Member of Leadership Rapid City, the Allied Arts Council, and South Dakota Humanities Council; and as a member of the 1996 Library Citizen Advisory & Planning Board.
Serving on the Library Board of Trustees is important to Dr. Sneller’s ongoing commitment to education and learning as a means to creating and nurturing the most productive, effective, and knowledgeable citizens possible. The Rapid City Library is, and must be, at the core of this enterprise by offering information in a variety of traditional and contemporary forms, as well as serving as a hub of educational enterprises and activities.
