What is the Community Development Block Grant?
The Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) is a flexible program that provides communities with resources to address a wide range of unique community development needs. Beginning in 1974, the CDBG program is one of the longest continuously run programs at HUD. The primary objective of the CDBG program is to develop viable urban communities by providing decent housing and suitable living environments, and by expanding economic opportunities, principally for low- and moderate-income persons.
The Division works with the public in identifying challenges and opportunities affecting the quality of life of Rapid City residents. We facilitate discussions among community stakeholders and government officials in order to set strategic goals and objectives. We then allocate funding to projects and programs that address identified high-priority needs.”
