Agenda Item Summary:
The Sixth Street Study is comprised of two components: The Sixth and Omaha Pedestrian Crossing Feasibility Study and the Sixth Street Corridor Study. The Feasibility Study Draft Report was presented at the June 2020 MPO meetings, and the Corridor Study Draft Report was presented at the August 2020 MPO meetings.
The Sixth and Omaha Pedestrian Crossing Feasibility Study focuses on creating a grade-separated crossing that functions with the bicycle and pedestrian network, traffic operations, and public transit.
The Sixth Street Corridor Study builds upon past planning efforts to combine community and stakeholder engagement, existing conditions analysis, and the creation of an overarching vision and goals to envision a cohesive character for the Sixth Street Corridor from the Performing Arts Center at Rapid City High School to the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center.
Following the adoption of the Sixth Street Study, the next step in the process is to identify funding for engineering, design, and construction of the grade-separated crossing.
