Agenda Item Summary:
The City and GCC Dacotah, Inc. (GCC) have been working together to evaluate and develop a Landfill Diversion Program to provide alternate fuel for GCC operations. A presentation was given last year to inform the Council of this exciting opportunity. A draft memorandum of understanding has been developed and is in final review. GCC and the City are now preparing to move into the next phase of program exploration.
The City proposes to engage Burns & McDonnell to provide guidance, input, recommendations, and risk management considerations to better assess how the proposed program could reduce landfill disposal operations and extend the site life. In addition, they will evaluate the potential changes, capital cost needs, and operational adjustments as part of the cost of service analysis to identify the benefits and costs of the program.
Burns & McDonnell is an industry leading consulting firm providing solid waste and resource recovery related engineering and consulting services to local governments throughout the United States. They supported the City with development of their Solid Waste Master Plan, and their team is uniquely qualified based on their in-depth knowledge of the City’s Solid Waste division.
