Agenda Item Summary:
A request was received in the Engineering Office on May 19, 2023 requesting the requirement to install sidewalk along Anamosa Street and Turbine Drive per City of Rapid City Ordinance 12.08.060 be waived. A five-foot wide sidewalk is required to be constructed along Anamosa Street, a Major Arterial on the City’s Major Street Plan, and Turbine Drive, a Collector, at the time of building permit, with the property having approximately 260 feet of frontage along East Anamosa Street and 450 feet along Turbine Drive. The requested variance will allow for construction of a new veterinary clinic on the property without the installation of sidewalk in the adjacent rights-of-way.
There is one option for sidewalk, install five-foot wide sidewalk one-foot inside the right-of-way from the property line. If topography is a concern, this can be alleviated through grading and/or the installation of Type “C” Retaining Wall per the 2022 Standard Specifications. Public Works recommends denial of the sidewalk variance request.
