Agenda Item Summary:
A request was received in the Engineering Office on June 24, 2016 requesting the requirement to install sidewalk along Toni Lane per City of Rapid City Ordinance 12.08.060 be waived. A 4 foot wide sidewalk is required to be constructed along Toni Lane at the time of building permit, with the property having approximately 300 feet of frontage along Toni Lane. The requested variance will allow for construction of a proposed home on the property without the installation of sidewalk in the adjacent Toni Lane right-of-way. Adjacent Toni Lane is a lane/place street with a gravel surface approximately 14 feet wide and a cul-de-sac. There is no sidewalk present on Toni Lane or nearby Jolly Lane. The nearest sidewalk is approximately 2,000 feet to the south on Jolly Lane.
There are two options for sidewalk; install the sidewalk 1 foot inside the right-of-way or curbside. Public Works recommends approval of the sidewalk variance request.
