Agenda Item Summary:
The proposed amendments define “data center” as “a physical facility or group of facilities that store applications and data in a location where computing and networking equipment is used to collect, process, retrieve, and store data, as well as to distribute and enable access to resources.” The proposed amendments also add “data center” as a permitted use in Light Industrial and Heavy Industrial Districts with the provision that the building permit application must include documentation demonstrating the ability to obtain adequate electrical capacity supply to support the data center as agreed to by the energy provider, as well as documentation demonstrating the ability to obtain adequate water supply and sewer capacity to support the data center as agreed to by the utility provider. Energy and utility providers vary dependent upon the location of a project, so the process for obtaining documentation demonstrating the ability to obtain adequate electrical capacity, water supply, and sewer capacity will be determined by the individual providers.
