Agenda Item Summary:
The applicant requests a Variance to allow a 6-foot high fence in lieu of a maximum 4-foot high fence in a side yard abutting a street. The subject property is located at 1701 Tepee Street. The property is at the intersection of Tepee Street, which forms the front yard, and Jackson Boulevard which forms the side yard abutting a street. The property is zoned Low Density Residential District – I and developed with a single family residence. The adjacent properties in each direction have the same zoning designation. Tepee Street is a local street on the City’s Major Street Plan. The fence is constructed of cedar, and proposed to be located adjacent to the property line. The zoning code allows the placement of a 6-foot high privacy fence on a side yard abutting a street, so long as it is setback at least 10 feet. The written statement submitted with the application notes the purpose of the fence is to block noise from Jackson Boulevard, and to create a private backyard for the family’s use.
