Agenda Item Summary:
This Ordinance adds a separate set of requirements for fences around public and private utility facilities. Examples of such facilities would include water treatment plants, electric substations, natural gas gate station, and landfills. Taller fences than would otherwise be allowed in many zoning districts are often required by state or federal permits or regulations for utility facilities. These fences generally are to promote public safety, but in some cases (e.g. the City’s Landfill), are to control litter and keep areas clean. This Ordinance is intended to allow utilities to erect fences that comply with regulations for safety without violating the city code or having to seek a variance or exception.
