Agenda Item Summary:
Section 11-6-18.2 SDCL requires that a summary of the action of the City Council on a Comprehensive Plan Amendment shall be prepared by the City Planning Commission, reviewed by the City Attorney, published once in the official newspaper, and take effect on the twentieth day after publication. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------RapidTRIP 2045 has been developed to guide transportation planning activities and transportation facility development for the next 25 years. The goal of the Metropolitan Transportation Plan is to plan an efficient intermodal transportation system which maximizes the movement of goods and people, and minimizes hazards, costs, energy consumption, and pollution. This document is a requirement of the Fixing America’s Surface Transportation Act (FAST Act), and must be updated every 5 years. The Metropolitan Transportation Plan for the Rapid City Area was last updated in August 2015. This Rapid City Area Metropolitan Transportation Plan has two major components. The first component is comprised of the 25-year traffic forecasts for the Rapid City Area Metropolitan Planning Organization Study Area used to identify future transportation needs. The second component is the development of the actual planning and prioritization elements within the Metropolitan Transportation Plan to satisfy those future needs. As an additional component of the process, the Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan, adopted in 2011, was also updated.
