Agenda Item Summary:
The applicant has submitted an Initial and Final Planned Development Overlay to allow a business office and childcare center. In particular, the Rapid City School District and the YMCA are partnering to reuse the former “Black Hills Corporation” building located at 625 9th Street. The school will be moving their administrative offices from the City School Administration Center to this new location and sharing space with the YMCA which is expanding their childcare services. The proposed childcare center will provide care for a maximum of 183 children. The YMCA will occupy the first, third, fourth, and fifth floors. The school will occupy the second, sixth, seventh, and eight floors. The proposed reuse includes interior renovations, an outdoor play area on the west side of the building, six parking spaces, and a new stairwell on the northwest side of the building. The proposed hours of operation for the childcare center will be from 6:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. On February 21, 2018, Public Works approved a proposal to convert the on-street parking located on 9th Street and Kansas City Street as a loading and un-loading zone for the childcare center. No Exceptions are being requested as a part of this Initial and Final Planned Development Overlay application.
